neonatal Death refers to the death of a baby in the first month of life. They account for roughly 2/3 of all infant mortality in the United States. Most common causes of death in the first month of life include prematurity, congenital anomalies, pregnancy complications in mother, placenta/umbilical cord issues, and infection. Black babies are twice as likely to die in the first month of life compared to babies from other races/ethnicities.
