Episode 4 – In this podcast episode Chris Duffy interviews Dr. Junichi Hasegawa of Tokyo Japan. Dr. Hasegawa is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Marianna University School of Medicine in Tokyo, Japan. He completed his MD in 1998 and PhD in 2004, both at Showa University School of Medicine. Dr. Hasegawa is board certified by the Japan Society of Perinatal and Neonatal Medicine and Japan Society of Ultrasonics in Medicine. He has been awarded the Scientific Award of both the Japan Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology and Japan Society for Reproductive Medicine. He was also named a Best Reviewer for the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Research. His extensive research focuses on ultrasound evaluation of the umbilical cord and placenta, early detection of placental abruption, and ultrasound evaluation in early gestations.
Dr. Hasegawa spoke at the Stillbirth Summit 2017. His talk was entitled Novel Approaches to Managing Umbilical Cord and Placental Issues.

Thank you so much for posting the interview with Dr. Hasegawa. I would love to understand how pregnant patients can influence U.S. ObGyns to take preventative measures re: placental abruptions. My son Logan died of a preventable abruption on my due date and I was unaware that I could have had umbilical cord ultrasounds in the 3rd trimester. Please continue to raise awareness on this cause of stillbirth along with what we, as patients, can do to reduce the risk.
