Please note that we recommend requesting a proclamation in August or sooner to give offices enough time to process your request.
A proclamation is a public or official announcement, especially one dealing with a matter of great importance.
Proclamations raise awareness and recognize important issues such as stillbirth. This is also a beautiful way to honor your baby.
Proclamations are typically signed and issued by federal officials, governors, state legislators, mayors, or other government officials at the local level such as town/village managers or city council members.
The public can request a proclamation in as many places as applicable. For example, you can request a proclamation in your town, your county, your city and your state.
The public can request a proclamation at any time. We suggest making your request for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month in August or sooner to allow for enough time to create the proclamation for the month of October.
You need to make this request annually.
You typically will receive a hard copy of the proclamation with a stamp of approval and signature which is either mailed to you or you may have to pick it up in person. You might also receive an email version.
Take a picture and post about it on social media. We love when you honor your baby in the picture such as including their photo or a special location. Please make sure to tag us @starlegacyfoundation so we can share!
Use our toolkit for a step by step easy way to help you make your request to designate October and Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.
