Priscilla Carpenter’s Story

My Pregnancy Journey

Hello, my name is Priscilla Carpenter and I experienced five pregnancy losses caused by a severe septate uterus, a condition that was not discovered until after my first loss.

My first pregnancy loss occurred at approximately five months. During the pregnancy, my baby developed severe complications. Many of her organs were not functioning properly, and she developed significant physical abnormalities. Before becoming pregnant, I had done everything I could to ensure a healthy pregnancy, including blood work, cancer screenings, ultrasounds, and other testing. Every result came back normal.

At around three months pregnant, doctors discovered that the baby was implanted on the right side of my septate uterus. The baby clearly outlined my septum, which finally led to my diagnosis. I remember the overwhelming fear at that time, as well as my doctor encouraging me to pray through the uncertainty.

At five months, I underwent a high-risk surgery to end the pregnancy. It was the most traumatic experiences of my life. I remember fading in and out after surgery while the medical team prepared my baby for additional testing.

After enduring four more pregnancy losses, I eventually underwent surgery to remove the uterine septum. That surgery changed my life. I was finally able to carry my son. Due to severe intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), he was delivered via C-section at 37 weeks weighing only 4.5 pounds and measuring below the 1st percentile.

Today, my son is my miracle and is healthy. I share my story to bring awareness to septate uterus complications, pregnancy loss, and infertility, and to remind other women that they are not alone in their journey.
