Logan Wayne Burk

January 29, 2026

Our Story 🤍 On January 29, 2026, our beautiful son, Logan Wayne Burk, entered the world and changed our family forever. We had dreamed of the life we would share with him. We imagined bringing him home, watching him grow alongside his big brother, Robert, and experiencing all the little moments that make up a childhood. We wondered what his personality would be like, who he would look like as he grew, and what kind of person he would become. We had so many plans for our little family, and so much love waiting for him.

We never imagined that our time together would be so short. Shortly after Logan was born, concerns about his temperature and feeding led to him being admitted to the NICU. What initially seemed like something relatively minor quickly became much more serious. Doctors discovered that Logan was suffering from severe lactic acidosis, a condition in which dangerous levels of lactic acid accumulate in the body. His medical team suspected an underlying genetic or metabolic disorder, but despite extensive testing, the cause of his illness remained unclear. Our first days as a family became a blur of hospital rooms, medical terminology, difficult conversations, and overwhelming uncertainty. We were trying to understand what was happening to our baby while holding on to the hope that he would get better.

We spent those days loving Logan, being close to him, and wishing more than anything that we could take him home. On February 14, 2026, Valentine’s Day, our sweet boy passed away. He was just 16 days old. There is something impossible about leaving the hospital without the baby you had spent months preparing to bring home. We went into the hospital expecting to begin a new chapter of our lives and left facing a future we no longer recognized. We lost not only our son, but an entire lifetime of moments we were supposed to share with him. Robert lost the chance to grow up alongside his little brother. We lost the chance to watch our boys build a relationship, make memories together, and experience all the ordinary things we had once taken for granted.

To this day, we are still searching for answers about what caused Logan’s illness. Genetic testing has raised questions about a possible rare metabolic disorder, but no definitive diagnosis has been established. Living without those answers has added another layer of difficulty to an already unimaginable loss. But Logan’s story is so much more than his illness. He was our 7 lb 1.5 ounces head full of hair beautiful little boy. He was a son, a little brother, and a deeply loved member of our family. He was here. He was real. He had a name, a face, and a place in this world that will always belong to him.

We wish we could tell you about his favorite things, the sound of his laughter, or the funny little habits he developed as he grew. Instead, we hold tightly to the memories of the sixteen days we were given, knowing they will have to last us a lifetime. We share Logan’s story because we never want his life to be reduced to the dates on a memorial page. Sixteen days may seem brief to the rest of the world, but to us, those sixteen days were an entire lifetime with our son. We want people to know his name. We want them to remember that Robert has a little brother, that we have two sons, and that our family will always have someone missing. We carry Logan with us into every day, every holiday, every family photograph, and every milestone he should have been here to experience. If there is one thing we hope people take away from Logan’s story, it is that a life does not have to be long to be meaningful. His time here was heartbreakingly brief, but he will always be part of our family and our story.

Logan Wayne Burk January 29, 2026 – February 14, 2026 Our son. Robert’s little brother. Forever a part of us. 🤍 “Neither death nor life … will be able to separate us from the love of God.” — Romans 8:38–39
