Joetta Grace Bernander was born sleeping on March 22, 2026, after a blissful 42.5 weeks in utero.
On October 6th, at her mother Jamie’s 20 week ultrasound, we discovered that Joetta had anencephaly and rachischisis, a neural tube defect that means her brain and spine did not fully develop or close properly.
We were told we “had options,” following Joetta’s diagnosis, but for us, that wasn’t true. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away. He is the Creator of life, and He numbers our days. We believe God makes no mistakes, and we wanted to honor Him and the life He gave us in Joetta.
Joetta was surrounded by our kids, family and friends the moment she was born. She had chubby cheeks, pursed lips, and a few special features only our family knows about. She was beautiful, known and loved by our Creator. She only ever knew love. We trust that she is whole, free from pain, and in the loving care of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We love and miss her deeply.
