Denise Nelsen, BSW is our Family Support Specialist. She first came to Star Legacy Foundation in 2016 as a dedicated volunteer after the stillbirth of her grandson, Elijah. She joined our staff in 2020 as an Administrative Support Specialist and assumed her current position in 2021. A native of South Dakota, Denise received her degree in Social Work at Northwestern College and was the Project Director for the Northwest Iowa Foster Grandparent program for 15 years before moving to Minnesota. Denise and her husband Jim Demke live in Carver, MN.
