Chris Duffy’s guest for this episode of the Stillbirth Matter’s Podcast is Marian Sokol, Ph.D., MPH.  Dr. Sokol is currently the Executive Director of the Children’s Bereavement Center of  South Texas in San Antonio. Marian is the original founder and was the executive director of Any Baby Can for 21 years and president of First Candle/SIDS Alliance, based in Maryland, for eight. She is also currently the Co-Chair of the Action for Stillbirth Awareness & Prevention (ASAP Coalition). She has a long standing passion working on the prevention of stillbirth and the support of families that experience these tragedies. In addition, she works for families of infants and children with critical and chronic illness.  Dr. Sokol recommends that families seeking resources go to the website of the National Alliance for Grieving Children to find a children’s bereavement program in their area.

Dr. Sokol received her PhD from the University of Texas at Austin and a post doctoral MPH in Public Health from University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston, TX.  Dr. Sokol has been a strong advocate for pregnancy & infant loss issues for decades and an advisor for Star Legacy Foundation from the beginning of the organization.  She joined the Board of Directors for Star Legacy Foundation in 2013.  Marian and her husband Tom live in San Antonio.
