On July 13, 2015, we welcomed our beautiful baby boy, Matthew Christopher Ommen into this world. Although his life on this earth only lasted a few minutes outside of his mom’s protection, we couldn’t be more proud as parents of this perfect boy.

Matthew was born via emergency c-section at 5lbs 8oz and 18 inches. It was determined that Matthew’s death was caused by a true knot in the umbilical cord. It is believed that Matthew entered into an intrauterine fetal coma during the previous night, but was strong enough to keep his heart beating for another 20 hours.

After the passing of our son, we began searching for answers. We already knew we wanted to ensure that our son made a difference in the world and would hopefully help save future children. We believe that the Star Legacy Foundation is the organization in which our son, through us, will make a difference.

Thank you for joining us in this journey and supporting us. We have great hope that in our lifetime, the 26,000 families a year in the United States who suffer the loss of a child to stillbirth can be significantly reduced through enhanced research and education. Furthermore, we will continue to provide love and support to families when they learn their baby will not be born alive or is not expected to live long after birth.
With love,
Mark & Christine
