Ways to help support parents & families

In addition to stillbirth research & education, one objective of the Star Legacy Foundation is to support families after they learn their baby has died.  We hope to minimize their regrets and offer them support and guidance as they birth their beloved baby, and make special memories.
When faced with the news that their baby has died or will die soon after birth, parents enter a whole new world filled with decisions they never planned to face and financial obligations they had not planned on.  Hospital staff find these situations equally difficult and often feel ill-prepared to provide adequate support to the grieving family.  They too benefit from having support from those that have walked the path before them.
Currently we have a number of opportunities for individuals and/or groups to get involved to help pregnancy & infant loss families.  If you are interested in any of these programs or projects just let us know……
Loss Companioning & Support
11 Angels is a project of Star Legacy Foundation started in partnership and at the request of a group of individuals in the Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN area who have first hand experience with pregnancy and infant loss.  Their desire was to build a program where they could offer support and informed guidance to families in their darkest hours when they learn that their baby has died or may not live long after birth.  If you would like to become involved in the 11 Angels project contact us at  If you live outside of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area and would be interested in creating a similar project, just let us know.
Sew, Crochet or Knit Infant Burial Gowns, Blankets, Caps & Booties
So often families do not have clothing of an appropriate size to dress their babies for burial.  Star Legacy Foundation has a supply of these items that we make available to anyone in these circumstances.  We receive nice donations from organizations such as Care Wear, Mary Madeline Project as well as from individuals that wish to put their talents to good use.  If you would like to contribute to these efforts, please let us know.  We have patterns available for a wide variety of sizes.  If you don’t sew, knit or crochet and would like to contribute, you can always donate yarn, fabrics, lace and notions to be used or cash donations to purchase these items as well.  We have found that many fabric stores will also donate items from their remnants for these purposes.  Please contact us for more information.
Care Packages
We have a number of individuals/groups that put together care packages for families that have learned their baby has died.  These packages can be provided to hospitals to have on hand for those situations or directly to families.  If you would like to put together care packages/baskets for a hospital(s) in your area we can help.  We have a list of suggested items in addition to resources for helping to obtain free/discounted items for these packages.  Please contact us for more information.
If you have other thoughts and ideas for how you would like to support families we are always happy to support your efforts in any way we can.
